BlackBerry Limited plans to sell off the majority of its Canadian real estate holdings.
CBRE Limited will partner with BlackBerry to strategically divest property from the mobile communication firm’s real estate portfolio through a combination of sale-leaseback and vacant asset sales.
The properties up for sale will consist of more than 3-million square feet of space, including more than 2-million square feet of office space and almost 1-million square feet of warehouse/office property.
“BlackBerry remains committed to being headquartered in Waterloo and having a strong presence in Canada along with other global hubs,” says John Chen, BlackBerry CEO and executive chair. “This initiative will further enhance BlackBerry’s financial flexibility, and will provide additional resources to support our operations as our business continues to evolve.”
BlackBerry’s portfolio consists of the Northfield Campus and University Campus in Waterloo, Ont., as well as the Cambridge Campus, the Mississauga Airport Corporate Centre Campus and the Ottawa Campus.
More than 80 per cent of the properties in BlackBerry’s portfolio were built after 2000, while the rest have been recently renovated.
