Canada’s first Nordstrom store officially opened its doors today in Calgary’s Chinook Centre following months of anticipation.
More than 1,000 people showed up at 9:30 a.m. to welcome the first international location for the high-end American retail chain, which plans on opening future stores in Vancouver and Toronto’s Eaton Centre.
“We are thrilled to welcome Nordstrom to Canada and even more excited that their debut is taking place at Chinook Centre, one of Cadillac Fairview’s iconic shopping centres,” said John Sullivan, president and chief-executive-officer of The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited. “We look forward to a longstanding relationship with Nordstrom as they continue to grow their presence in our portfolio and across the country.”
Complete with personal stylists, beauty advisors, five shoe departments and a full-service bistro, among other amenities, the natural light-filled interior occupies a two-level space of 140,000 square feet.
Founded as a shoe store in 1901, Nordstrom has grown to operate 270 stores in 36 U.S. states. The next Canadian outpost will debut at Ottawa’s Rideau Centre in March 2015.
