Ontario is providing $16 million to complete over 550 facility upgrades and repair projects at more than 140 child care centres across the province to help better serve children, youth and families.

Michael Coteau, Minister of Children and Youth Services, was on hand at the Massey Centre on August 4, 2016, to announce that particular centre would receive $897,200 as part of the investment to support 23 projects through Ontario’s Partner Facility Renewal program. This investment will help the child care centre complete necessary upgrades so it can continue to serve the community.

Ontario’s investment will help children’s treatment centres, children’s aid societies and youth centres across the province to repair and maintain facilities and offer more secure and accessible services.

Approved projects include upgrading accessible bathrooms, replacing windows, repairing roofs, replacing furnaces, expanding program space and installing carbon monoxide and fire alarms. Just last year, hundreds of community agencies received more than $20 million to help tackle upgrades and repairs.

“Ontario’s children’s treatment centres, children’s aid societies and youth centres support families by delivering essential services to our next generation,” said Coteau, in a press release. “Investing in repairs, renovations and upgrades, and ensuring they are in good working order helps those who work at these vital agencies focus on what they do best: helping young people thrive in our communities.”
