Ontario recently broke ground on the first hospital slated for the city of Vaughan, which will provide state-of-the-art health care services to over 500,000 people. The province is investing up to $1.3 billion in the project.

Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will provide modern surgical services and operating rooms, advanced diagnostic imaging and other specialized services. Health care professionals at the new hospital will use the most advanced smart technology available to improve the patient experience.

“Today marks a truly momentous occasion for the community of Vaughan and York Region as we celebrate the official ground-breaking and start of construction for the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. Our new hospital will be the first smart hospital in Canada designed through the eyes of the patient,” said Altaf Stationwala, president and CEO of Mackenzie Health, in a press release. “Mackenzie Health’s smart hospital vision will feature fully integrated smart technology, including systems and medical devices that can speak to one another. The health care team will be enabled with actionable information in real time that enhances the delivery of efficient, high quality, patient-centred care.”

This is one of 35 major hospital projects across the province that is currently under construction or in some stage of planning. Construction on Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is expected to be completed in 2020.
