Brampton’s Peel Memorial Centre is poised to undergo a major expansion aimed at cutting wait times and improving care access in the growing city after the Ontario government approved the project earlier this month. Opened last spring, Peel Memorial is intended to intercept some of the visits to emergency departments in the area by providing services such as same-day surgeries.

“Ontario is continuing to build on our investments to enhance health care services in Brampton to accommodate high population growth,” said Dr. Eric Hoskins, minister of health and long-term care.

More inpatient services, such as complex continuing care, will become available at Peel Memorial after the expansion.

Vic Dhillon, MPP for Brampton West, and Harinder Malhi, MPP for Brampton-Springdale, were on hand when Dr. Hoskins announced the project earlier this month.

“I am delighted that our government is listening to concerns about health care in Brampton,” said Malhi. “This investment in William Osler Health Services will help alleviate the exceptional rate of growth in patient volumes in our community.”

Counting six previously announced beds, Brampton Civic Hospital will also be getting 37 more beds this year.
