Geothermal condo rising in downtown Mississauga

Wednesday, June 23, 2021

Edenshaw Developments will be integrating a geothermal exchange system into the design of its latest condo, the 32-storey Alba in downtown Mississauga.

The 418-unit tower will join a crop of other residential developments across Canada that are digging into renewable energy sources as a way to eliminate dependency on exhaustible resources and lower costs for residents. Geothermal systems are said to reduce carbon emissions by as much as 80 per cent over fossil fuels.

“Geothermal systems eliminate the use of natural gas to heat and cool the entire building and reduce the amount of energy required to operate the condominium’s central systems,” Carmen Gerasolo, sales manager of Edenshaw Developments, said in a statement. “The positive impact for residents includes lower maintenance fees, greater resale value, and a mechanical system built with reliability and resiliency.”

Alba will rise at 1 Fairview Road East in Mississauga and Hurontario. Unveiled this week, it incorporates a lengthy list of indoor and outdoor amenities over 20,000 square feet. These include a co-working and business centre, children’s play room and outdoor play area, pet spa and outdoor dog run area, maker studio, terrace with barbecues, lounge seating and dining, party room with demo kitchen, gym with social lounge, games room, commercial laundry room and guest suites.

Designed in conjunction with architectural firm CORE Architects and interior design firm Cecconi Simone, suites range from one-bedroom to two-bedroom + den layouts, with vistas of Lake Ontario and downtown Toronto and smart home and building features.

“Alba marks our third project in our portfolio of condominiums in Mississauga, and we are proud to not only introduce it to the market, but also to be a part of the immense growth happening in this area,” said Gerasolo. “Edenshaw is excited to bring a community of this stature, along a predominant rapid transit corridor, to the vibrant and ever-expanding neighbourhood of City Centre.”

Alba is slated for completion by the summer of 2025.
