Tuesday, September 24, 2013

Three retail properties in British Columbia were recently recognized with 2013 ICSC Canadian Shopping Centre Awards for their innovative design and development.

Presented by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), the annual awards program brings information and insight to the entire industry on what it takes to achieve high levels of accomplishment and success.

Uptown Shopping Centre in Sannich was honoured with a gold award. Managed by Morguard Investments Ltd., the 875,000-square-foot mixed-use, urban development is situated on an 18-acre brownfield site near Victoria, with a tenant mix that includes retail, restaurants, daycare, office space, spas and medical facilities. Uptown is also a green-friendly building, registered with the certification of LEED-ND (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development) gold.

Twenty-six Marine and Richmond Centre both earned silver awards.

Vancouver’s 26 Marine is the epicentre of a development boom that’s poised to transform the neighborhood into a mixed-use urban corridor. The 220,000-square-foot project is anchored by a two-level Canadian Tire store and four major retailers. It was developed with green initiatives in mind to achieve LEED gold certification.

Managed by Cadillac Fairview Corp. Ltd., Richmond Centre embarked on a 15-month, $30-million renovation to convert the Multiplex Theatre into an open dining concept. Located on the second floor, Dining Terrace features 18 food retailers, more seating and a complete recycling area for plastics and organic waste.
