What are the top condo design trends for the coming year?
Design trends are constantly changing. For any condo board considering a refresh, here are five ways to bring a condo building’s decor up to date in 2014:
Radiant Orchid 18-3224
This year’s Pantone colour of the year. For a less feminine look with mass appeal, expect to see it combined with yellow and turquoise. All three colours can be used together for a fresh spring look, or separately with neutrals for a more modern style.
Natural elements with texture
The high-gloss modern finishes of previous years are on their way out. Honey-toned woods, which are forgiving of wear and tear in condo buildings, will be on frequent display. Other elements such as natural or faux stone will serve to complement these wood tones.
Contrasting patterns
Expect to see geometric patterns offset by florals. Geometrics can add a modern touch, but can also lean towards a traditional feel, helping to blend the new and the old in condo buildings. Florals add an organic look that nicely offsets the harder lines of the geometric patterns.
Custom-printed carpets
Buildings are turning away from carpet tiles and coming back to the luxurious look of custom broadloom patterns. These are great for condo buildings because they are custom designed to work with the building’s layout and colour scheme and can define certain areas, such as the elevator lobbies.
Minimalism
Airy, pared-down design with relaxed modern furnishings will be a sought-after style. It works well in lobbies and amenity areas of condo buildings, thanks to its versatility and easy maintenance.
