The Sunday Times newspaper has named University of Waterloo School of Architecture alumna Alison Brooks has one of the most influential people in Great Britain.

Brooks, who graduated in 1998, was chosen for demonstrating “outstanding influence, achievement and the capacity to inspire.” The jury called her a “powerful force in British architecture with her drive to produce handsome housing for ordinary people.”

The Influential 500 list was compiled by specialist publisher DeBrett’s and the Sunday Times. It includes industry leaders and experts across 25 fields, including architecture, technology, politics and healthcare.

“Alison’s accomplishments are an inspiration for our students,” says Professor Ila Berman, director of Waterloo’s School of Architecture. “Her reputation speaks to the strength of our international alumni network, and her professionalism and creativity reflect the tremendous education our students receive.”

Brooks was previously awarded the Woman Architect of the Year by the Architect’s Journal in 2013. Her firm, Alison Brooks Architects, was the first to win all three of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious awards for architecture: the Stirling Prize, the Manser Medal and the Stephen Lawrence Prize.
