The Ontario government has committed to funding a state-of-the-art addition for the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse in Brampton, Ont. in order to meet the needs of a growing population in the region. The first two floors of the expansion will add new courtrooms, support spaces, judicial chambers and jury courtrooms. The remaining four floors will be reserved for future developments.
“This courthouse expansion showcases our government’s commitment to enhancing access to justice for Ontario communities,” says Madeleine Meilleur, Ontario’s Attorney General. “As part of the Better Justice Together plan, this project will provide safe, secure and accessible court facilities that meet local demand while making the best use of our capital dollars, and giving the best value for taxpayers.”
The expansion, slated for completion in December 2017, is the result of Ontario’s Better Justice Together strategy which aims to create a simpler, faster and more affordable justice system for Ontario residents. Since 2003, the Government of Ontario has invested over $1.6-billion to strengthen the province’s judicial system.
During construction at the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse, Milton, Orangeville and Kitchener courtroom space will be made available.
