Developers shortlisted for GTA hospital addition

Tuesday, March 10, 2015

Phase one of the Etobicoke General Hospital redevelopment is one step closer to reality as choices for potential developers and their respective design, build, maintenance and finance teams have been narrowed. The Patient Tower Project will be developed by one of three shortlisted candidates, including EllisDon Capital Inc., Fiera Axium Infrastructure Canada II LP and DIF Infra 3 Canada Ltd., and Plenary Group (Canada) Ltd and PCL Investments Canada Inc.

The project will consist of the addition of a 250,000-square-foot, four-storey wing featuring:

  • A larger, state-of-the-art emergency department;
  • An intensive care unit that will nearly quadruple the size of the existing space;
  • Larger patient rooms with more natural light and space for family members;
  • A maternal newborn unit with birthing suites; and
  • An ambulatory care procedure unit including operating rooms, recovery areas and dedicated clinic spaces.

“This announcement represents a vital next step in the progress of our Etobicoke General redevelopment project, and a tremendous step forward for our growing community,” says Matthew Anderson, President and CEO of the William Osler Health System, a hospital system serving 1.3 million Brampton, Etobicoke and GTA residents. “Our new wing will provide the best in diagnostics, treatment and technology to serve the community’s most urgent health-care needs, support the delivery of world class emergency care and help us establish centres of excellence in high-priority areas.”

The redevelopment team will focus on sustainable design and construction in an effort to achieve a LEED Silver certification.

The shortlisted teams will be invited to respond to a request for proposals in April 2015.
