Arrest made in alleged $4.1-mil condo fraud

A St. Catharines man has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged defrauding of 13 condo corporations of $4.1-million between March 2009 and September 2014, said a May 21 Halton Regional Police Service media release.

The media release said Brett Mackenzie Leahey, 45, acted as the owner/operator of Integrated Condominium Management (ICM), a property management firm responsible for servicing and managing the finances of 10 Burlington condo corporations and three Hamilton condo corporations.

Leahey is alleged to have forged property maintenance invoices and contracts, fraudulently charged the condos for work not completed and redistributed assets from the corporations to his business accounts for personal use.

He faces charges of defraud the public, seven counts of fraud over $5,000, three counts of laundering proceeds of crime, 11 counts of utter forged document and two counts of possession of proceeds of crime.
