As part of a $2-billion residential housing investment plan aimed at Quebec seniors, Réseau Sélection has embarked on its flagship project, Rosemont-les-Quartiers, a mixed-use development designed to meet the requirements of the aging baby-boomer population. Under the plan, Réseau Sélection is committed to the development of 30 new seniors-focused residential complexes in Quebec over the next five years.
“This investment plan responds to an expanding market and will make it possible to meet growing demand from seniors, who will represent one-quarter of Quebec’s population in 15 years’ time,” says Réal Bouclin, CEO of Réseau Sélection. “As baby boomers approach retirement, the process of deciding whether to live in a residence will change, and the needs of this cohort will evolve. These people view retirement as an active and rewarding time of life: they want to stay healthy, continue doing what they love and, in many cases, embark on new projects. They’ll be looking for environments that reflect their style and meet their needs.”
The $250-million Rosemont-les-Quartiers project will consist of 1,400 housing units, 1,000 of which will be reserved exclusively for seniors. The development will include condominiums and apartments for individuals aged 55 and over, condominiums for families, social housing, a polyclinic, specialized residential units and retail stores. It will also be wheelchair accessible and feature a variety of amenities, including an outdoor courtyard, community garden, billiards room, card game room, community room, recreation room and fitness centre.
The development will also have a large focus on sustainability. Plans for the project include landscaped walkways and public squares as well as the planting of over 500 trees. Residents will have access to bike paths, Bixi stations, car-sharing service CommunAuto and public transportation.
Located in the borough of Rosemont-la-Petite-Patrie, Rosemont-les-Quartiers will be the largest project of its kind in Quebec once complete.
