Alberta Wood WORKS! has announced the recipients of the 2013 Prairie Wood Design awards. Eight projects and an engineer wood advocate were selected from more than 40 entries.
The Grizzly Paw Brewery in Canmore, Alta. by Lloyd R McLean Architect with Russell and Russell Design Studios won in the commercial and institutional category. The brewery also won ISL Engineering and Land Services the Engineer Wood Advocate award.
The Edmonton Valley Zoo Arctic Shores exhibit in Edmonton won in the municipal category. The architect and engineer was Group2 Architecture Interior Design Ltd.
The Salvation Army Barbara Mitchell Family Resource Centre in Winnipeg, with architecture by Richard Prins Architect + Affinity Architecture and engineering by Wolfrom Engineering Ltd., won in the recreational category.
The Mid Century Canadiana Condo Renovation project in Edmonton won Sheri Krug Designs the interior wood showcase award. Finally, Neale Staniszkis Doll Adams Architects won in the residential category for the Prairie Lake Retreat, St. Brieux, Sask.
The three Jury’s Choice winners were: Beverly Heights House in Edmonton by Manasc Isaac Architects and engineering by Five Star Engineering Ltd.; Fiskaoist in Gimli, Man. by architect and engineer company Work/Shop; and Foxtail Café in Wasagaming, Man. by Peter Sampson Architecture Studio Inc.
