More than 200 updates and revisions have been added to the recently released 2015 Canadian Electrical Code (CE Code), Part 1, which covers installation and maintenance of electrical equipment for operation.
The CSA Group, a global provider of testing and certification services, announced the 23rd edition is also available in a new mobile app form.
The interactive version provides enhanced ability to locate, interpret and calculate requirements of the code on a tablet or phone.
Gianluca Arcari, executive director of standards and vice-president of the CSA Group, says users will be now “be able to easily access and find relevant sections on a portable device, while they’re on the job.”
Some updates to the 2015 CE Code include sections which focus on renewable energy, electric heating and classifications for hazardous locations.
There are also significant updates on the latest technologies and safety features for occupants and first responders.
A separate document named, “Top 16 CE Code Changes,” offers an overview of the changes and how they impact stakeholders.
Other big changes include:
- Section 18 on hazardous locations now focuses exclusively on the Zone system of classification.
- Requirements for photovoltaic systems have been combined with requirements for renewable energy systems.
- Installation requirements for electrical heating equipment have been rationalized and grouped into general rules, while new requirements have been added for skin-effect trace heating systems and heating systems by Class 1 extra-low voltage power circuits.
The CSA Group has listed further changes to the 2015 CE Code, Part 1 on its website.
