Colliers sells Muskoka landmark

Wednesday, September 21, 2016

Windermere House Resort, a seasonal getaway perched on the waterfront of Lake Rosseau in Ontario’s cottage country, has been sold to a private investor.

Colliers International Hotels announced the deal on behalf of Windermere House Corporation and says the four-star, 56-room lodging spot offered “an exciting opportunity for a new owner” to purchase a historic waterfront resort a few hours north of Toronto.

The Victorian structure was built in 1870 and remains one of the oldest landmarks in Muskoka. The building itself has undergone some challenges over the years including a fire, which ruined the principal structure during the filming of the Hollywood movie The Long Kiss Goodnight. However, according to the resort’s website, reconstruction preserved several historical features and modernized systems. The resort then reopened in 1997, and continues to offer modern amenities and services, along with an array of outdoor recreational activities including a golf course and marina.
