Common Good is a modern new ice cream cafe in Abbotsford with fun, and inspiring ice cream flavours using local and quality ingredients. The restrained interior design by Andrea McLean Studio creates a warm and welcoming space for guests to enjoy their treats.
The goal was to incorporate modern materials that reflect the iconic gelaterias of Italy, and the textures and colours of ice cream and ice cream cones. The iconic Rombini tile designed by the Bouroullec Brothers for Mutina was chosen as a beautiful connection to the ‘cone’ or ‘waffle’ texture that is below the ice cream.
Despite a very limited budget, materials were used in refined and thoughtful ways elevate the mundane into something very unique and beautiful. Instead of using the dimensional tile throughout, coloured paint was used in some areas to extend the concept visually. The stone table tops were remnants sourced at a local stone yard, and since the concept was to have all tops different, it was easy to find at affordable prices.
The space planning allows for a clearly defined service area and seating is divided by a large seating bench. The result is a vibrant gelateria that speaks to the local community.
