Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness, located in Brampton, Ont., reached a major construction milestone as its topping off was celebrated on July 31. The 585,000-square-foot ambulatory care clinic, collaboratively designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects and RTKL Canada, will be part of the William Osler Health System. Plenary Health and PCL Contractors are delivering the LEED Silver-targeting healthcare facility through a design, build, finance and maintain model.
“The building provides an integrated health solution in a setting that is filled with light and colour and works to reunite the site with the surrounding residential community,” said Greg Colucci, principal at Diamond Schmitt Architects, in a press release. “The design is inspired by the diversity of the Peel community and a desire to create a sense of wellness and vitality for both staff and patients.”
At the heart of the building is a three-storey atrium that opens to a pedestrian entrance plaza and courtyard with seating and a children’s play area. The hospital will feature treatment and waiting areas with large courtyards to bring in daylight and create a connection to nature. The site will also house community meeting rooms, a fitness centre, client facilities, a large dining hall with a street-front terrace and therapy garden.
The healthcare facility will feature a full complement of outpatient treatment areas, such as a dialysis clinic, a seniors’ wellness centre and a centre for mental health and addiction. It will also feature an urgent care centre with extended hours, and an ambulatory procedure clinic with eight operating suites.
On track for fall 2016 completion, the facility won’t be fully operational until early 2017.
