Taking notes from its 2015 Human Capital Trends Report, which shows millennials expect greater flexibility in their workplace, Deloitte has unveiled its ‘more social’ office space in the new Deloitte Tower in Montreal’s Quartier de l’innovation.
The office was designed to nurture collaboration and productivity in the workplace in a silo-free, flexible environment with more than 18 types of workspaces, including booths, open/semi-open ad hock meeting spaces and tables, and shared space hubs at main intersections points. Lounges, cafes, an outdoor green space and a wellness centre are also included.
“Our research shows that workplace values are largely compatible across generations — but what differs is approaches to work itself,” said Marc Perron, managing partner for Quebec, Deloitte. “By providing employees flexibility and choice when it comes to the way they work, we’re creating a workplace of the future that encourages collaboration, team work and cross-functional, innovative thinking.”
The report, part of one of the largest longitudinal studies of talent, leadership, and human resources challenges and readiness around the world, found these Gen Y ideals are creating a new set of challenges, particularly for human resource teams who must consider how these trends will increase employee engagement.
“Allowing employees to socialize on the job and work in social settings encourages a strong sense of camaraderie and community,” added Perron. “Our approach not only helps our employees be more productive, it encourages them to build lifelong connections with each other by interacting in social spaces.”
