The 18th annual Doors Open Toronto, a free weekend-long event celebrating and creating awareness of Toronto’s architecture, history and urban design, will be held on Saturday, May 27 and Sunday, May 28, 2017.
The event, presented by Great Gulf, will allow tours or special programs at 150 of Toronto’s most historical and/or architecturally significant buildings, several of which are not usually open to the public.
The 2017 event’s theme is 15 Decades of Canadian Architecture, in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday. It will feature highlights of each decade since 1867 as well as some from pre-confederation. The event’s theme and lineup will allow the city to commemorate its past through outstanding architecture while also celebrating its future.
As part of the Doors Open Toronto 2017 special programming, Great Gulf is inviting artists to submit proposals for projects that relate to the Doors Open Toronto programming and reference the theme. Artists from any discipline are invited to submit a proposal for a project up to a maximum of $5,000.
Proposal guidelines can be found at http://www.oaa.on.ca/news%20&%20events/news/detail/Great-Gulf-Doors-Open—CALL-FOR-PROPOSALS-/1933. The deadline to submit a proposal is Friday, September 30, 2016.
