Edmonton hotel is largest to use Bullfrog Power

Thursday, March 5, 2015

Edmonton’s Metterra Hotel on Whyte is now the largest hotel in Canada to power its entire property with Bullfrog Power, a national leader in 100 per cent clean, pollution-free electricity.

Bullfrog’s electricity stems from a mix of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities. Bullfrog’s generators will implement 100 per cent clean electricity into the grid to match how much power the hotel uses.

The Westcorp property is located near the Edmonton River Valley. Hans Von Bloedau, vice-president of hotels for Westcorp Properties, says supporting renewable energy puts the hotel at the “forefront of Canadian green energy supporters” in the hospitality sector, but also “it’s the right thing to do.”

Dawn Li, the hotel’s general manager, says adding green energy also means increasing customer satisfaction.

“We share our guests’ philosophy of doing what we can to care for the environment and to minimize our carbon footprint,” she says. “We hear regularly from them how important even the smallest initiatives are and make green sustainability a priority in our operation.”
