The Quebec City Convention Centre recently opened its new meeting and conference facilities, following two years of work and a $46 million investment from the provincial government.
Events at the convention centre generate around $100 million in economic spin-offs and more than 150,000 overnight stays at nearby hotels each year. With the new state-of-the-art facilities now open, it is expected that the centre will generate at least $19 million in additional economic spin-offs and 30,000 overnight hotel stays.
The new multipurpose facility has the capacity for up to 2,000 delegates. It consists of 5,789 square metres of useable space, and includes eight modular meeting rooms, two large exhibition halls and a 26-seat conference room.
“Since it opened its doors in 1996, the convention centre has strived to stand out from the competition through its creativity, expertise and highly customer-centric approach,” says Alain April, Quebec City Convention Centre board president. “With these modern new multipurpose facilities, the Quebec City Convention Centre will quickly become the number one choice of Canadian clients and attract bigger events, bolstering the economy of the entire Quebec City area.”
The expansion include the addition of new stairs that connect the main hall to the renovated public hall, which features artwork by Montreal-based artist Chantal Séguin. The Convention Centre expansion includes space from the Place Quebec shopping centre, which was purchased for $4.3 million.
