The $86-million expansion and redevelopment of Galeries d’Anjou in east Montreal has finished.
Co-owners, Cadillac Fairview Corp. Ltd. and Ivanhoe Cambridge, spent 24 months completely transforming the shopping centre. The expansion includes the addition of a new wing, anchored by a two-level, 100,000-square-foot Simons store.
“This is an extremely exciting stage in the evolution of Galeries d’Anjou,” says Salvatore Iacono, Cadillac Fairview’s senior vice-president of development and portfolio management for Eastern Canada. “Its expansion and revitalization are key factors in the centre’s continued success. The arrival of Simons and other key players will attract customers from new markets, including the northeast shore of Montreal.”
Simons will be joined by Target and Sephora in mid-October, bringing the mall’s gross leasable area to 1.1 million square feet.
The redevelopment involved a complete makeover of the common areas, construction of a new food court and an additional 160-spot underground parkade, located beneath Simons. The shopping centre’s previous anchor tenants, Sears and the Hudson’s Bay, also underwent substantial renovations. A Topshop/Topman store has been added to The Bay.
