Graham has been awarded the $167 million construction management contract for a high-rise project in downtown Vancouver. Located at 1568 Alberni, the project will be Graham’s first high-rise project in the city.
The 43-storey, 45,708 m2 (492,000 sq. ft.) luxury residential tower is comprised of 181 units, eight levels of underground parking and mixed-use space for retailers. Amenities include a gym, pool, sauna, play area, public art, wine cellar, restaurant and more. The exterior of this high-end, LEED Gold tower features two concave siders resulting in a unique, curved form.
Graham is working closely with owners Peterson Group, a Vancouver-based real estate investment, development, property management, capital lending and private equity company, and Westbank Projects Corp., a developer recognized for many notable, luxury projects across North America.
The skyscraper is the first in North America designed by Kengo Kuma Architects from Japan, with architect of record Merrick Architecture, a Vancouver based practice.
Known as ‘Alberni by Kuma,’ the tower combines residences with retail space and a restaurant in a rectilinear volume accented by “scalloped scoops” on two sides of the tower’s profile to protect view corridors within the city.
Pre-construction is ongoing and on-site activities have commenced, with the removal of hazardous materials to prepare for demolition of the existing building.
Substantial completion is scheduled for March 2021.
