Preconstruction of Southport, a new six-storey condominium and apartment complex in downtown Halifax, is currently underway.

The building will consist of 140 suites, half of which will be rental units managed by Killam Properties Inc. The remaining 70 units will be sold as condominiums under the management of Toronto-based developer Urban Capital Property Group.

Located near the waterfront and minutes from downtown, Southport’s design incorporates Halifax’s rich shipping history. The loft-style complex will feature a shipping container-inspired exterior made from corrugated metal. Amenities for future residents will include a communal rooftop patio and theatre area.

One and two-bedroom units and penthouse suites, ranging from 467–980 square feet, will be available for lease or purchase.

Construction of Southport is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2014.
