Rogers Stadium to open at former Downsview Airport

Tuesday, October 1, 2024

Live Nation Canada has unveiled plans for Rogers Stadium, a temporary outdoor concert venue that will open on the former Downsview Airport site in summer 2025.

The purpose-built design will accommodate 50,000 patrons and host a wide range of concerts and music acts in north Toronto, while anchoring Northcrest Development’s evolving 370-acre master planned community for a limited amount of time.

Northcrest has been leading the transformation of YZD. Over the coming decades, this largely undeveloped land will build out into seven new neighbourhoods as one of the largest mixed-use projects in North America.

“Rogers Stadium is a testament to our vision for this masterplan, which includes a series of communities, creating a space where people come together to experience the best the city has to offer,” said Northcrest’s CEO Derek Goring. “With development plans for these lands years away, this new venue serves not only as a premier concert venue but also reflects Northcrest’s commitment to creating a seasonal destination that brings much-needed infrastructure for the city’s arts and culture sector.”

Construction and operation at the north end of the former airport’s runway are expected to generate thousands of jobs, boost tourism and support local businesses, while bringing about $80 to $100 million to the local economy.

Rogers has signed on as naming rights partner and exclusive telecommunications and entertainment sponsor.
