Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) is planning to develop a new flagship store in Vancouver’s Olympic Village. The proposal is for a three-storey mixed used green building of approximately 60,000 square feet.
The site, which is owned by Beedie Development Group, calls for a retail store totalling 45,000 square feet on two levels. Office space on the third floor would include a mix of MEC and sublease spaces as well as a community space.
The design will embody MEC’s signature green building form and will target a minimum LEED Gold certification. Proscenium Architecture & Interiors is leading the development application.
MEC’s new store will replace its store at 130 West Broadway, which the retailer has occupied since 1995. Construction is expected to begin in early 2017 and with the new store opening in mid-2018.
