The government of Newfoundland and Labrador plans to green its operations over the next five years with various initiatives, from increased waste diversion to improved sustainability of government buildings.
The Greening Government Action Plan, announced in late January 2015, outlines 46 commitments that also aim to green fleet management and travel practices, obtain more environmental products and services and properly engage employees on all such issues.
Dan Crummell, minister of environment and conservation and minister responsible for the office of climate change and energy efficiency, said the greening government plan is a long-term commitment, but also a priority.
We believe the culture of an organization can be transformed by strong leadership, active employee engagement, and through this action plan we are establishing both to achieve our goal,” he said.
The plan applies to all government departments and agencies in the province.
