Statistics Canada will soon collect data for the Survey of Commercial and Institutional Energy Use 2015 on behalf of Natural Resources Canada (NRC).
The national survey, beginning in February, aims to gather detailed information on the energy demand and consumption patterns of commercial and institutional buildings across Canada.
Data from this survey is expected to generate multiple benefits within the building sector. The necessary information obtained will be used for measuring energy efficiency and developing policies and programs.
Such data will also be utilized to update the 1-100 ENERGY STAR scores now available through ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, while creating new scores for building types not able to receive a score.
This data also creates an opportunity for building owners and managers to compare their own energy consumption, while energy specialists and consumers will be able to learn more about such consumption patterns.
NRC suggests organizations consider advising its members and stakeholders of the survey as Statistics Canada may ask an organization to participate.
