Toronto’s Yorkville neighbourhood will have a new eastern gateway at the northwest corner of Yonge St. and Cumberland St. with the development of 8 Cumberland. The new condominium tower by Great Gulf will be developed in partnership with Phantom Developments Ltd., The Kadima Group and MM Realty Ventures Inc.
The development will be designed by Paige and Steele/IBI Architects with interior designs by Thomas Pearce and landscape architecture by NAK Design. It will incorporate an entire block of heritage preservation along Yonge St., featuring retail space on the first and second floors within heritage buildings dating to the late nineteenth century.
“We have been working on this project for some time and are excited to be part of this transformation. 8 Cumberland will be a sleek and stylish building, timeless in its architectural design and will appeal to discriminating consumers who want to live in the vibrant and sophisticated Yorkville neighbourhood,” said Christopher Wein, president of Great Gulf, in a press release.
The development is closely located to two subway stations and Canada’s most exclusive shopping district. The masterplan currently includes parks and open spaces with pedestrian mews that will join Yorkville Ave. to Cumberland St., eventually connecting to Bloor St. West.
