New residential development coming to Regina

Friday, November 7, 2014

Regina will be getting a new residential development in the city’s northwest district within the expansive neighbourhood of Coopertown. Called Rosewood Park, the new development will stretch over 20 hectares and offer everything from recreational facilities and a community centre, to much-needed affordable housing and seniors accommodations.

The new neighborhood was proposed by Rosewood Alliance Church as a means to address the lack of affordable and seniors housing in the area. The development will not require any finances from the city, under the serving agreement fee.

Councillors who voted against the proposal cited concerns with inadequate amenities, such as transit, roads, water and other utilities, and the area being too isolated. But Regina Mayor Fougere compared the development to Harbor Landing, saying that neighborhood was also just an open field at one time.

Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2015, with residents moving into homes in early 2016.
