Additional funds have been earmarked to bolster staffing at Ontario’s Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB). The Ontario government has allocated $1.4 million to hire about 35 additional staff. That’s on top of the $4.5 million over three years that was pledged earlier this year to help address the LTB’s case backlog.
“Residents and rental housing providers will get faster results, shorter wait times and a better overall experience when they need to engage the board,” maintains Ontario’s Attorney General, Doug Downey.
The LTB was the first of the provincial tribunals to adopt the digital case management and online dispute resolution system that the Ontario government introduced in 2021. As well, this year’s nearly $6 million funding injection will underwrite a promised new “centre of excellence for client engagement”.
“These important investments will help ensure that both residents and rental housing providers receive timely decisions and support the accessibility of quality rental housing in Ontario,” says Tony Irwin, president and chief executive officer of the Federation of Rental-housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO).
