Penguin Random House Canada opened its first retail store in Canada this week, on the main floor of the Front Street West building where the company’s Toronto offices are situated.
The Penguin Shop is being dubbed “part bookstore, part literary experience,” and features new and classic titles, special editions, book-related merchandise and branded items, such as Penguin Classics mugs, notebooks, and tote bags.
“We are continually in search of innovative ways to bring the books we are so proud to publish to readers,” said Brad Martin, president and chief executive officer of Penguin Random House Canada. “As such, we see Penguin Shop as a research and development lab — a place where we can interact directly with consumers.”
The 158-square-foot shop was designed by figure3, the company behind Penguin Random House Canada’s new office space. The space feature floating ledges, immersive displays, and mobile bookshelves that showcase a carefully curated selection of titles.
