The Silver Sage Elder’s Lodge, a 26-unit affordable housing development, has entered construction in Regina, Sask. The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan are contributing $2-million toward the development of 16 one-bedroom units and Silver Sage Holdings Ltd. will provide an additional $5.05-million for the remaining 10 two-bedroom units.

“Our government continues to work with partners to create safe and affordable homes for Saskatchewan seniors with low incomes,” says Donna Harpauer, Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation. “The development of affordable homes like the Silver Sage Elder’s Lodge ensures a better quality of life for Saskatchewan people. Improving housing availability and affordability is an important component of Saskatchewan’s Plan for Growth and we are proud to work with the Government of Canada and Silver Sage Holdings Ltd. to put this commitment in action.”

The project, which Silver Sage Holdings Ltd. President and CEO Maynard Sonntag says may be the first of its kind in Regina, will provide safe, affordable and quality housing for First Nations Elders. According to Sonntag, planning for the development has been the focus of a group of Regina-based First Nations leaders for several years.

In addition to funding from the Canadian and Saskatchewan governments, the City of Regina will provide $390,000 for the project as part of their Capital Housing Incentive.
