Singapore vertical garden sets world record

Tuesday, June 24, 2014

A 24-storey, 24,600-square-foot living wall in Singapore has set a Guinness World Record, as the largest vertical garden in the world. Located on the appropriately title Tree House condominium, it acts as a filtration system for pollutants and carbon dioxide.

“With the eco-inspired Tree House, CDL has not only created a place where residents are proud to call home but more importantly, a green icon which placed Singapore in the world map,” says Kwek Leng Joo, deputy chairman of City Developments Limited (CDL), the building’s developer.

The garden reduces the building’s carbon footprint and decreases heat absorption, which in turn helps cut the energy costs required to cool indoor spaces.

Other green features in the building include staircase sensors that automatically activate lights and laminated green-tinted windows to reduce heat. CDL estimates the property’s green features will reduce its energy consumption by more than 2.4 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year.
