As a result of a $150,000 donation from the Fallsview Resort and Casino, the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame has been relocated to the concourse level of the City’s Meridian Centre. The hall features the achievements and accomplishments of St. Catharines, Ont. athletes who have participated in provincial, national and international sporting events.
Within the facility, a David S. Howes Sports Wall of Fame was created. Howes was a Sports Hall of Fame committee chair and long-time supporter who provided a $75,000 to the centre before passing away in January.
“The Sports Hall of Fame Committee is excited to mark this milestone in the development of the St. Catharines Sport Hall of Fame,” says Peter Partridge, Chair of the Hall of Fame Committee. “Because of the generous donations from Fallsview Casino Resort and Dave Howes, the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame is now situated in the Meridian Centre for all the citizens of St. Catharines to enjoy. This would not be possible without their support.”
Established in 1990, the hall was originally located in the St. Catharines Museum as a small exhibit. It was eventually expanded to include a wall of fame at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre. It is now located at 1 IceDogs Way.
