The K-12 Souris Regional School has officially opened in Prince Edward Island after entering construction in the spring of 2013. The new $20-million facility is comprised of 128,000 square feet of space including a new K-6 academic wing, a culinary teaching area, enhanced IT and trades spaces, two gymnasiums and three playgrounds.
“The official opening of Souris Regional School marks another milestone in our government’s investments in education in Prince Edward Island,” says Robert Ghiz, Premier of P.E.I. “Souris Regional is a state-of-the-art, high quality learning environment that will meet the needs of students for years to come.”
Although classes began at the new school in September 2014, the last phase of construction will be completed in March. The finishing touches will include the renovation of shop areas, change rooms for a K-6 gymnasium and a new teachers’ lounge.
W.D. Lawrence Architecture was responsible for the planning and design of the government-funded project with APM Construction Services leading the construction.
