Several Toronto buildings received top honours at the recent Ontario Masonry Design Awards gala, held at the Allstream Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The awards, which covered projects completed between the summers of 2009 and 2013, recognized the substantial, imaginative and creative use of masonry design in Ontario buildings and projects.

“Masonry has a long history and a bright future in Ontario,” says Judy Pryma, President of MasonryWorx, the provincial association representing professionals in brick, block and stone. “It allows us to build beautiful, sustainable and innovative architecture that stands the test of time. Masonry buildings are some of the most iconic buildings in their communities, and they contribute an enduring sense of place and identity.”

Toronto projects recognized at the awards include:

• The Village by High Park – Residential High-Rise Architectural Design award;
• The R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant – Restoration Design award;
• The Bay Adelaide Centre – Revitalization Design award for historic façades;
• Bridgepoint Health’s Administration Building – Structural Design for Institutional Colleges, Universities, Hospitals and Government award;
• The Kleinburg Residence – Residential Low-Rise Architectural Design award; and
• Ireland Park – Artistic/Commemorative Design award.
