Vancouver-based technology company Avigilon plans to move into a prime Robson Street office tower where Telus is currently anchor tenant.
With a $2-million deposit already completed, Avigilon said it will pay another $40 million by the end of October, moving employees into the nine-storey building by 2016.
Alexander Fernandes, chief executive office of Avigilon, said the 135,000-square-foot tower will serve as the company’s global headquarters. The building is currently adjacent to Telus Gardens, a $750-million development now under construction.
Telus plans to move its national headquarters into a newer office building down the street, on the same block.
“We look forward to welcoming such an innovative B.C.-based company as our new neighbour on one of the most sustainable downtown blocks in North America,” said Andrea Goertz, chief communications and sustainability officer at Telus, adding, money from the sale will be funnelled back into broadband data infrastructure throughout the Lower Mainland.
