The Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) has revealed the Silver Award winners for the 2018 Awards of Excellence. One Silver Award winner from each category will be chosen as the Gold Award winner during the gala dinner Oct. 23, at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
VRCA’s Awards of Excellence is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2018. This year, 49 Silver Award winners were selected in 15 project categories on the basis of criteria that include the use of innovative techniques, new materials and/or exceptional project management.
“This year, we received a record-setting 205 nominations with a total construction value of more than $2 billion dollars.” said Tony Everett, chairman of VRCA’s Awards of Excellence Committee. “As judges, we were impressed by how companies overcame a range of challenges, from engineering and design firsts to building in difficult weather conditions.”
Project award categories recognize general, trade, mechanical and electrical contractors, along with manufacturers and suppliers who deliver an entire project or a component of a project according to specific financial and non-financial criteria.
This year’s Silver Award winners include Parq Vancouver, UBC Brock Commons, Emily Carr University of Art + Design (photo above) and B.C. Children’s and BC Women’s Redevelopment project – all winners in multiple categories.
“Not only did we see a record number of entries this year, we saw examples of our industry stepping up to face new and unique challenges,” said said Fiona Famulak, VRCA president. “Many of this year’s winners are leading the way in reducing the environmental impact of projects through use of new materials and technologies that both enhance the quality of projects and drive value to owners.”
