Waterfront Toronto and its government partners have officially opened Corktown Common, a multi-use urban green space located in the city’s West Don Lands.
“Corktown Common shows that Waterfront Toronto is delivering on our mandate to transform underutilized brownfields into beautiful new waterfront neighbourhoods that deliver environmental, social and economic benefits and to position the City of Toronto as a world leader in creating sustainable communities,” says Waterfront Toronto chair Mark Wilson.
The park, located in a former industrial area, will protect the downtown eastside community from flooding. It was constructed using nearly $30 million in provincial and federal funds.
Condos and office towers currently surround the new park. By next year, a George Brown College residence, a handful of condos and the Pan Am athlete’s village will join the area.
