WaterTAP and AEC partner with China

Friday, November 7, 2014

As part of Premiere Kathleen Wynne’s trade mission to China, two Canadian environmental groups have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group (CECEP).

The Advanced Energy Centre (AEC) at MaRS Discovery District and the Water Technology Acceleration Project (WaterTAP) have partnered with the CECEP, advancing Premiere Wynne’s goal of helping businesses tap into new markets and build Ontario’s relationship with China.

“Today’s announcement is an example of the global strength of Ontario’s clean technology sector, said Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure. “Our expertise will help people in China and in Ontario create a cleaner environment, build a stronger economy and offer a better future for our children and grandchildren.”

The venture aims to provide innovative energy and water technologies to CECEP, while exploring how groundbreaking Chinese technologies could help deliver better efficiencies and lower energy costs in Ontario.

“WaterTAP looks forward to working together with the AEC and CECEP to provide opportunities for innovative water technology companies to collaborate across countries and sectors,” said Dr. Brian Mergelas, chief executive officer of WaterTAP.

Ron Dizy, managing director of the AEC, is also excited about the collaboration as it will propel provincial energy innovation into international markets and gather knowledge from the CECEP—the largest player in China’s energy and environmental technology market.
