Andrew McAllan, senior vice-president, real estate management, Oxford
Properties Group discusses disaster recovery and emergency preparedness in the
wake of the flooding in Calgary and Toronto. But water and fire aren’t the only hazards. McAllan also addresses which emergencies property managers should be prepared for and their basic responsibilities under the law.
Emergency preparedness and prevention
Property managers play an important role in disaster management

Andrew,
Your comments are very timely. I recently made a presentation on the same subject to a large property management group in Toronto.
We focused on such simple ideas as having spare fuses on hand and more complex projects such as connecting the booster pumps to the emergency generator to allow for water to the upper floors in the event of a power outage.
As you mentioned, emergency preparedness is a very multifaceted concept.
